To begin, you have to become more mindful of the thoughts that you continuously have. When you are more mindful of your negative thinking, you start to recognize just how often those thoughts can creep in. It might take some time to examine this, but once you realize what triggers your cynical thoughts and why, it will be much easier to turn the thoughts into positive ones
